Rice is a staple food for many of us, be it for lunch or dinner, we seem to never get enough of it. Then there are times when leftover rice has been given the much-loved facelift and made into Mom’s version of the store-bought fried rice. Basmati rice on the other hand takes the cake when it comes to being the crowd favorite. Aptly called the queen of the perfumed rice by the world, Basmati rice with its nutty flavor makes the dish taste wholesome and unique. Be it Pulao, Biriyani, or even everyday plain rice, this particular grain cereal has made its mark in everyone’s heart. But alas many a time people are unable to enjoy it to their heart’s content. Here, we are breaking a few old myths that made our favorite rice misunderstood.
Glycemic Index (GI) – Having a very low Glycemic Index, Brown rice is not on the strict no-no list of someone who is suffering from diabetes. A person who has diabetes can easily enjoy a small bowl of brown rice given that he or she doesn’t overdo the quantity of the rice they intend to consume.
High in Fiber- Brown rice is one of the most common food grains which are high in fiber. As we all know fiber and roughage go hand in hand when it comes to the human body. A good amount of roughage helps ease our digestion process. Thus it is important that we choose food ingredients that have tons of fiber and in turn a good amount of roughage as well so that our digestion gets a big helping hand.
Great for keeping our Hearts healthy- Cholesterol is bad for our heart and anything that helps reduce the same is a food item we should definitely add to our diet. Brown rice is one of the few choice food whole grains that are known to have this very helpful property.
Cancer reducing properties– In the race between brown and white rice, the former wins by a landslide, when it comes to being healthier and having more fiber. This particular property is bound to make you less likely to be susceptible to a few kinds of cancer.
Brain Health Boosting– Brown Rice is decked up high in Vitamin B1 or thiamine, Vitamin B6 or pyridoxine, Copper, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorous, Zinc, etc, thus needless to say that all these nutrients will aid our brain work in a better capacity. Therefore, adding organic and pure Brown Rice to our eating habits will bring us tons of health benefits.
